Technology to save you 40-60%
With cooled EGR engines, more heat and sulfuric acid go into the oil. Because of that, oil change intervals are shorter compared to Cat engines with ACERT Technology. Caterpillar engineers estimate that preventive maintenance costs on engines with cooled EGR technology will be 40% to 60% higher than Cat engines with ACERT Technology. In addition, cooled EGR engines typically have a larger oil sump, which means they require more oil. This further adds to preventive maintenance costs.
